Who's that knocking on my TARDIS?
Through all of time and space, the TARDIS flew. On the outside; a blue police box, on the inside; a console room of wood and steel and candles, with buttons and glowing lights all coming together to make a kind of gothic steampunk fantasy.
For the Doctor, this was home.
"Well?" he said, almost absentmindedly fiddling with the switches and the controls on the console. "Where to next, hmm? The reign of Emperor Taizong? The fifth age of the New Savannah? Or maybe...Galsec Seven? What do you think?"
The console's central column pulsed slightly.
"Oh, don't look at me like that, old girl. You can't blame me for a moment of indecision, can you? Billions upon billions of worlds, an untold number of people and places and peculiarities to see...it's a wonder I ever manage to get anywhere at all, with so much to choose from!"
The glow of the TARDIS, quite possibly, took on a slightly pointed edge.
"Oh alright, alright, if you insist! Let's go...oh. Now that's not right."
[[ooc: Okay, the idea here is that any characters tagging in are suddenly arriving in the TARDIS. How they do is up do you: they could just walk in the door, they could just suddenly materialise with no added explanation, they could have been hiding in the swimming pool all this time and have only just decided to show themselves - whatever you like! You can keep it simple or make it some complicated conspiracy, whatever takes your fantasy.
Also, if you need some references - the inside of Eight's TARDIS basically looks like this, and Eight himself looks like this.]]

And add to that the fact the man apparently recognized him...well, he was more than a bit confused. The man's grin was met with a look of bafflement, his brows knitting together as he tried to figure out what was going on.
"Hey? How do ye mean that doesn't makes sense. And how do ye know who I am?"
no subject
"It's something that my people do. We cheat death, you see. When we die, we change, and then we live on in a new body. I am the Doctor, but not the Doctor of your time."
no subject
"Och, you're having me on."
The man had to be pulling his leg, that was all there was to it. Why he'd want to do that, Jamie had no idea, but he couldn't possibly be the Doctor. Frowning slightly, he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Look, ye don't just go about changing faces like that. Now who are ye, really?"
no subject
"No, it's me, Jamie! Why would I have you on? And besides, you can't talk - I remember you changing your face once! You know it was very disconcerting..."
no subject
He trailed off at that point to peer at the other man, a little suspiciously. That particular time hadn't been all that long ago, and it wasn't something Jamie had exactly went around telling people. So how had he figured it out?
"Wait just a minute. How would ye know about that, anyway? That was in that land of fiction place and while I saw quite a few things there, I'd not say there was anyone who looked like ye at all."
Unless...unless it really was the Doctor, and he was telling the truth about being able to change his face. Jamie leaned forward to look little closer, his brow knitting together for a moment as he studied the other man. After a moment, he pulled back, a slightly uncertain expression on his face.
"Doctor? Is it really ye?"
no subject
Instead, he just beamed at Jamie. "Yes, it is me! It's so good to see you Jamie..." Which was why the Doctor decided to pull Jamie in for a hug, too happy to see his old friend again to think about whether or not Jamie would even appreciate it.
no subject
"Aye, well, it's good to see ye, too, although I've only just left ye back in the TARDIS."
Which...actually, he wasn't so sure that he wasn't still there, come to think about it. There were a few things that looked at least a little familiar, although there was also quite a lot that looked quite, quite different. He turned around in place for a moment, frowning a little.
"Hey, wait...is this still the TARDIS? What did ye do to it?"
no subject
"Oh yes, of course...and we'll have to get you back there, very odd this is. Strictly speaking, you shouldn't even be here, our timelines aren't supposed to cross at this point..." the Doctor said, rambling on.
And as for the TARDIS..."I changed the desktop! You know after a few centuries you just get so bored of having the same old grey walls and same old grey console. Do you like it? You know I got the candles brought in especially from Candelaba Nine, the people there can do the most amazing things with everlasting wax..."
no subject
"Hey? I don't see any desks around here, Doctor."
And after a moment he gave up looking, instead glancing around at the much different console room and nodding a bit, not looking overly impressed.
"Oh, aye, I see. I suppose it's alright. Don't see what was wrong with the old one, though. I liked that just fine. Did ye change anything else in here while ye were at it, though?"

He doesn't entirely look like he understands that, either, but at least he's not going around calling a metaphor 'metal floor' this time around. And he's willing enough to accept the Doctor's word about what a desktop is anyway, shrugging after a moment and moving to go peer a little more closely at the console itself before lifting his head and turning to regard the Doctor with a blink.
"When are things ever the same with ye, Doctor? The TARDIS is always breaking down or going wrong somehow, and if it's not we always seem to wind up who knows where no matter where we mean to go. I'd say that's plenty different, if ye ask me."
He reached out with a finger, pointing down at one of the readings on the console to bring it to the Doctor's protection.
"Like take this, for example. The numbers keep spinning on that one and I bet ye that means that wherever you're going now you're not going to get there, and we'll wind up somewhere else altogether."
